About Was Freedom Sweet? Book Talk
This illustrated talk will examine the eight clues of the life of an enslaved man who lived in the 46 Clarke St house for more than a decade. It will also discuss the writing of a historical novel based on his life and that of his Narragansett wife as they make a series of choices in pursuit of freedom.
This talk coincides with research Jane conducted for her debut work of historical fiction, Liberty is Sweet.
About Jane Lancaster
Jane Lancaster was born in the UK, and has been living in Providence for 40 years. She is a writer and researcher on women's and Black history. Jane holds a PhD from Brown and was a high school for many decades, and now is a historical novelist!
