Join us at the Opening Day of the Cato Vernon Freedom Library with a special drumming performance by Sidy Maiga.
Sidy Maiga is a master djembe artist from Mali whose work bridges traditional West African music with contemporary global influences. Based in Rhode Island, Sidy is known for his powerful performances, preserving traditional Malian rhythms while exploring collaborations across genres including Latin, blues, and Brazilian music.
Sidy apprenticed under renowned master drummers in Mali from a young age and has spent nearly two decades sharing West African music and culture through performances, education, and community programs. He is the founder and director of Afrika Nyaga, a West African Dance and Drum Festival, and Artistic Director of the RI Cultural Institute, dedicated to promoting African culture through music, education, and community engagement.
